DUBAI - The Dubai Police are investigating the death of an African woman, whose death was first reported as a suicide, as she appeared to have jumped from the fourth floor of a building in Al Murraqabat area.

The police were informed about the body being found at 7.30am last week in the parking lot of the building. The woman’s body was naked and she had been clutching her flat key.

But, following preliminary investigations, the police arrested an Egyptian investor, 36, in connection with her death, who was later charged with murder.

The probe showed that the woman, a Nigerian, who was staying with another woman who was abroad, was allegedly running a prostitution racket in her flat. They found that the Egyptian had been in her flat when she jumped.

The man told the police that he had been walking with his friends when he noticed that the woman had left behind her cellphone.

He said that when he went to her flat to return her mobile phone, she asked him to have sex with her and she went to the bathroom.

Later, as his friend knocked on the door, she fled thinking it was the police and jumped.

The two men also said that the accused had called up his friends after the woman jumped, because she had done so with her flat key and he asked for them to come up and open the flat so he could come out.

They could not open the door but the accused made his way out of the flat through a hole in it.  He and his friends fled the scene later, as they found out that the woman had died.

The police believe that the Egyptian pushed the woman — with whom he may have had a dispute, while she tried to prevent him from leaving the flat. With the fact that she jumped off with the key, the suspicion is that she may have been murdered, and hence, the case has been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
