Ajman Municipal Worker Denies Intent to Sue BankPublish Date: 2010-02-04 11:00:25 Story Code: 25005 AJMAN — An Ajman Municipality employee, whose bank deposited Dh5.2 million into his account by mistake, denied a report in an Arabic daily on Wednesday which said he would sue the bank for compensation.
Hashim Abbas, 50, was shocked and surprised on Sunday when he realised Dh5.2 million was deposited into his bank account instead of the Dh5,200 in monthly salary, but resisted the urge to become an quick millionaire. The soft-spoken Sudanese national said: “I would never do that because the money was not mine. I was just unhappy over the way I was treated by the bank after I had reported their mistake.” He said the manager did not have the courtesy to apologise for the mistake and thank him for returning the money. “I need money to support my family and educate my children, but won’t take what is not mine. I’m satisfied with the love and respect of my family and others around me,” he said. Abbas was honoured on Wednesday by Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairperson of the Ajman Municipality at a ceremony attended by municipal employees and the media. Shaikh Rashid also offered to bear the education expenses of Abbas’ children at Ajman University. © Khaleej Times 2010. All rights reserved. Share this story: Digg
