Two Accused of Theft of Building MaterialsPublish Date: 2010-01-31 11:00:09 Story Code: 24843 FUJAIRAH - Diba Fujairah Public Prosecution is investigating a criminal case in which two men, an Arab and an Asian, have been accused of robbing building materials from under-construction buildings in Diba and the adjoining areas.
A couple of days ago, police in Diba Fujairah received 15 reports from the landlords of an under-construction buildings saying that large amounts of timber and building materials had disappeared, and that the ‘burglary’ took place at late nights. A sting operation was planned by the Criminal Investogation Department (CID to arrest the perpetrators and plain-clothes policemen were deployed at the entry and exit points of the city. The police patrol became suspicious of a truck laden with timber, driven by an Asian man. The vehicle was flagged down. When asked about where he had brought the cargo from, he said an Arab man who works as representative of a construction company, had asked him to deliver the consignment to the premises of the company he works for. The Arab man was summoned, and when interrogated, he confessed he had stolen the wood, adding that he was being aided by two others, also Arabs of the same nationality as his. Police learnt that the two accomplices had managed to leave the country. The Arab used to provide the Asian with accurate information about the place where he had to strike. He also confessed to have stolen timber from 14 different sites of under-construction buildings in the city. He also said that the timber and other building materials are sold to the owner of the company he works for.
