Man Fined Dh2m for Harbouring IllegalsPublish Date: 2009-12-20 09:00:08 Story Code: 23660 SHARJAH – An Arab national, identified as A.A., has been awarded two months in prison and ordered to pay Dh2 million fine for harbouring illegal residents at a workers’ housing complex in the Sharjah Industrial Zone. He will be deported after the completion of his term.
Major Salim Al Shamsi, head of Violators and Foreigners Section in Sharjah, told investigators that the infiltrators had sneaked into the country by land with assistance from A.A. According to the Acting Director of the Naturalization and Residency Department, Major-General Nasser Al Minhali, the police apprehended 31 infiltrators of Asian origin in a crackdown launched recently by the Ministry of Interior. During the raid, illegal residents were found hiding in large plastic tubs, cupboards and under the kitchen stands, he said. The inspection campaign will continue and those who attempt to tamper with public security will face stern action, Al Minhali warned. He added that each of the infiltrators will spend one month in prison and deported thereafter. According to the UAE laws, whoever employs or harbours an infiltrator will face a prison term of not less than two months and a fine of Dh100,000.
