Border Posts Gear up for Holiday RushPublish Date: 2009-07-04 10:00:08 Story Code: 17381 ABU DHABI - Measures have been taken at the Al Ghuwaifat border checkposts to ensure safety and smooth flow of vehicles carrying vacationers to countries in the region.
The traffic and immigration authorities have also increased the number of personnel and made arrangements for welcoming tourists coming to the UAE on summer vacation and to avail themselves of the entertainment, sports and other tourist attractions in the country. “Finalising the entry and exit procedures for each and every passenger through the check points, takes only two minutes for Emiratis and four minutes for expatriates and new visitors,” said Major Salem Saeed bin Tasa Al Amiri. As many as 12 check-in counters have been set up, four for departures and eight for arrivals, he said, noting that one of the counters is exclusively for families. The total number of inbound passengers between January and May this year stood at 498,863, while 510,479 outbound passengers travelled through Al Ghuwaifat border during the same period. The authorities have also introduced a toll-free number (02-4097537) to connect the passengers with the duty officer in case of emergency travel. © Khaleej Times 2009. All rights reserved.
