Air-Conditioned Tents to Keep Families Cool at Liwa FestivalPublish Date: 2009-07-04 10:00:07 Story Code: 17380 ABU DHABI - Finishing touches are being given to the venue of the fifth Liwa Al Ratab (dates) Festival, which will be held from July 16 to 27.
The festival will unfold over 43,000 square metres over Liwa’s spectacular desert dunes, but organisers reassure visitors that the large hospitality tent and the tent for women and children only will be fully air-conditioned. “There will be 140 shops in the market, mostly run by local dates producers,” stated Saeed Al Kaabi, director of the Traditional Market Committee. As many as 60 exhibitors will be available to provide information on the quality of dates and farming. The event is being organised by ADACH under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. “We are putting in every effort towards a better understanding of global practices regarding the way of preserving this ancient heritage. “The idea of the festival is to encourage people to plant palm trees in the right environment, to produce dates of better quality and preservation of palm,” said Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, director-general of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and
Heritage (ADACH),. Daily shuttle buses for those wishing to attend the festival will be available between Liwa and Abu Dhabi throughout the event. “The festival administration is preparing everything, starting from equipping the tents, which will host multiple activities”, said Khalfan Al Mazrouei, director of the festival.
