Officials to Intensify Mid-day Break Rule InspectionPublish Date: 2009-06-30 01:00:15 Story Code: 17190 RAS AL KHAIMAH - The Ras Al Khaimah Labour Office has asked construction companies to limit their operations during the summer season to ensure the well-being of their workers.
Saeed Rashed Al Nuaimi, Chief of Labour Office in Ras Al Khaimah, said that companies should be extremely cautious about workers’ safety during summer and should limit the operations of workers especially those employed outdoors. He said that the mid-day break from 12 noon to 3 pm must be followed. Al Nuaimi said that the Labour Office will intensify inspections across various areas of the emirate during July and August to crackdown on violators. “No excuses will be accepted from companies that are caught violating the midday break rule,” said Al Nuaimi. “It is dangerous for the workers to get exposed to the scorching hit of the sun especially between 12.00 pm and 3pm when the temperatures tend to go beyond 45 degrees Celsius. Doctors from the emergency sections of Saqr hospital and Seif Obaidullah hospitals in Ras Al Khaimah have reported a decrease in the number of workers affected by heat this year. They said that only 10 workers were treated for sunstroke in May compared to the 31 workers in the same period last year. © Khaleej Times 2009. All rights reserved. Share this story: Digg
